How We Rank Classes

This tier list evaluates all six TBH classes based on three criteria: farming efficiency (how much gold and loot they generate per hour), progression power (how well they push through new stages), and team dependency (how much they need specific teammates to function). A class that solos content easily ranks higher than one that needs a full party behind it.

TierMeaning
SMeta-defining. Optimal in virtually every team composition. No significant weaknesses.
AExcellent. Strong in their role with clear strengths. Minor limitations that teammates can cover.
BSolid. Effective when built correctly and paired with the right team. Noticeable weaknesses that require planning.

S Tier Classes

Knight — The Unkillable Foundation

Role: Frontline Tank | Damage Type: Physical | Weapon: Sword + Shield

The Knight has the highest base HP (130) and Armor (45) in the game. No other class comes close to its survivability. In a game where a single death ends your AFK farming session, the Knight's ability to absorb damage is the single most valuable trait any class can have. The Knight also brings party-wide defensive utility — Aegis Field shields the entire party, and Retribution Strike turns blocks into counter-damage. A well-built Knight doesn't just survive; it contributes meaningful DPS through block retaliation.

Why S Tier: Required for Hell difficulty and above. Makes every other class better by keeping them alive. Needs almost no gear to be effective. The only class that has no real substitute.

Priest — Not Optional

Role: Healer / Buffer | Damage Type: Celestial (Magic) | Weapon: Scepter + Tome

The Priest is the only healer in TBH. Let that sink in — there is no other source of in-combat healing. Beyond healing, Blessing of Might provides up to a 90% party attack boost, effectively doubling your team's damage output. Sanctuary provides party-wide healing over time, which is mandatory for elemental damage stages and Hell+ difficulty where the entire party takes damage. The Priest is also a free DLC from the Steam store, so there's zero cost to acquire it.

Why S Tier despite A-tier rating in some lists: Tier lists that rate Priest below S are comparing it as a standalone class. But TBH is a team game. The Priest multiplies the value of every other class in your party. A party without a Priest cannot reliably farm Hell difficulty. That makes it S tier in practice — you cannot build an optimal team without one.

A Tier Classes

Hunter (DLC) — The Elemental Damage Specialist

Role: Elemental Ranged DPS | Damage Type: Fire / Cold / Lightning | Weapon: Crossbow + Bolt | Cost: ~$4 DLC

The Hunter brings three elemental damage types in one class — Explosive Bolt (Fire), Frost Bolt (Cold), and Shock Bolt (Lightning). The Frost Bolt → Explosive Bolt combo (freeze then detonate) is the highest burst damage sequence in the game. Hunter's elemental flexibility means it never hits a resistance wall. Against fire-resistant enemies, switch to Frost. Against cold-resistant, switch to Shock. The ~$4 DLC cost is the only barrier — if you're willing to spend any money on TBH, the Hunter is the single best purchase.

Why A Tier: Highest damage ceiling among all classes. Elemental flexibility is unmatched. Held back only by the DLC cost and low base HP.

Slayer (DLC) — The Melee Powerhouse

Role: Melee DPS / Off-Tank | Damage Type: Physical | Weapon: Axe + Hatchet | Cost: ~$4 DLC

The Slayer thrives in the thick of combat. Axe Spin applies bleed to everything around it, Crushing Blow delivers devastating single-target damage, and Commander's Cry buffs the entire party's attack. With HP Per Kill passives and natural bulk, the Slayer sustains itself through mob waves without needing constant Priest attention. In AoE-heavy stages with dense monster packs, the Slayer out-damages every other class.

Why A Tier: Best melee DPS in the game. Self-sustaining through HP Per Kill. Excels in mob-dense stages. Limited by being melee (takes more damage) and DLC-gated.

B Tier Classes

Ranger — The Consistent Free DPS

Role: Ranged Physical DPS | Damage Type: Physical (Ranged) | Weapon: Bow + Arrow

The Ranger is the most reliable free damage dealer. Attack Speed stacking and Rapid Fire produce consistent, predictable damage output. Arrow Rain provides decent AoE. The Ranger doesn't have flashy combos or elemental tricks — it just keeps shooting, and those arrows add up. In long AFK sessions, consistency matters more than burst. The Ranger's low HP (60) is its main weakness — it needs the Knight to tank and the Priest to heal.

Why B Tier: Reliable, consistent, free. But lower damage ceiling than Hunter and no elemental flexibility. Perfectly viable through endgame — just not optimal.

Sorcerer — The Free AoE King

Role: Magic AoE DPS | Damage Type: Fire / Cold / Lightning | Weapon: Staff + Orb

The Sorcerer has the best AoE damage in the game. Fireball, Ice Orb, Lightning, and Meteor Strike can clear entire waves in a single cast. On mob-dense stages, no class clears faster. The tradeoff is the lowest base HP in the game (50) and cooldown dependency — when skills are on cooldown, the Sorcerer's damage drops significantly. With the Knight tanking and Priest healing, the HP weakness is manageable. Elemental flexibility means the Sorcerer can always target enemy weaknesses.

Why B Tier (A with elemental matching): Unmatched AoE clear speed. Elemental flexibility. Free. Held back by extreme fragility and cooldown downtime. Becomes A Tier when you actively match elements to enemy weaknesses.

Best Team Compositions by Tier

BudgetCompTier Combination
Free (Best)Knight + Priest + RangerS + S + B — Tank, Healer, consistent DPS. Handles all content.
Free (AoE)Knight + Priest + SorcererS + S + B — Tank, Healer, AoE. Faster wave clear on dense maps.
Paid (Optimal)Knight + Priest + HunterS + S + A — Highest damage ceiling. Best late-game comp.
Paid (Aggressive)Knight + Hunter + SlayerS + A + A — No dedicated healer. High risk, high reward. Only with well-geared Knight.
Bottom line: Knight and Priest are the only two classes that appear in every optimal composition. Start with them, then choose your third based on budget and preference. Everything else is negotiable.
