The White Chest Lock is an advanced TBH farming technique that exploits the chest cap mechanic to force the game into dropping more boss (blue) chests instead of common (white) chests. When set up correctly, it dramatically increases your Soulstone and high-rarity gear income per hour of AFK farming. This is not a bug or exploit - it works within the game's intended chest cap system.
What Is the White Chest Lock?
TBH has a chest cap that limits how many unopened chests can accumulate at once. When you hit this cap, no more chests drop. The White Chest Lock exploits this mechanic by disabling auto-open for common (white) chests while keeping auto-open ON for boss (blue) chests. White chests fill up the cap intentionally, and since the game cannot drop more white chests, it redirects drop opportunities to blue chests instead - which get auto-opened immediately, keeping them below the cap. The result: you trade common chest drops for boss chest drops at a significantly improved ratio.
We discovered this technique after noticing our Soulstone income mysteriously increased when we forgot to re-enable white chest auto-open after a respec. After testing across multiple difficulty levels and hundreds of hours of AFK farming, we confirmed it works - consistently. How the Chest Cap Mechanic Works

The chest cap is calculated from your Rune Tree upgrades. Base cap is low (around 10-15 chests). Each chest drop "rolls" to determine what type drops - if the system rolls a white chest but the cap is full of white chests, the roll fails and the opportunity passes to the next roll. Over time, this shifts the effective drop distribution heavily toward blue chests, because blue chests are always below the cap (they get auto-opened) while white chests are always at cap (they stay closed).
How to Set It Up
Step 1: Check Your Rune Tree
You need the Boss Chest Drop Rate rune upgraded to at least +200% for this to be worthwhile. Without a high boss chest rate, you are just reducing your total chest drops without gaining enough blue chests to compensate. This rune is in the North-East branch of the Rune Tree.
Step 2: Disable White Chest Auto-Open
In the Rune Tree's Convenience (North) branch, find the Auto-Open Common Chests node. Disable it. Leave Auto-Open Boss Chests enabled. Most players keep both on by default - this is the only setting you need to change.
Step 3: Fill the White Chest Cap
Play normally for 20-30 minutes. White chests will accumulate until they hit the cap. You can speed this up by farming stages where enemies die quickly - faster kills = more chest rolls = faster cap fill. We recommend farming a stage 2-3 levels below your maximum progression for the fastest fill rate.
Step 4: Verify It's Working
Open your inventory. If you see a stack of white chests at the cap limit and blue chests continue to open automatically, it is working. The telltale sign: you should be getting noticeably more Soulstones and boss-tier materials than before, while your common material income drops.
Step 5: Clear the Lock When Done
When you are ready to go back to normal farming, manually open all the accumulated white chests and re-enable auto-open for common chests. Do not forget this step - leaving white chests locked when you need common materials (like for early-game crafting) will hurt your progression.

These numbers are based on our testing on Hell difficulty with +250% Boss Chest Drop Rate. Results vary by difficulty, rune upgrades, and clear speed. The key takeaway: Soulstone and high-rarity gear income roughly triples, while common material income drops by about 80%.
Common Mistakes
- Using it too early. Below Nightmare difficulty, common chests are your main source of gear and materials. The White Chest Lock will starve you of basics for marginal boss chest gains.
- Not upgrading Boss Chest Drop Rate first. Without +200% or higher, the increased boss chest rate does not compensate for the lost common chests. You end up with fewer total useful drops.
- Forgetting to clear the lock. Leaving white chests locked when you switch to activities that need common materials (like Cube crafting) wastes hours of potential material income.
- Using it on Torment difficulty before your party is stable. If your party wipes during a White Chest Lock session, the accumulated white chests disappear on death. Only use it on difficulties you can farm reliably without deaths.
- Not checking your chest cap. If you upgraded chest capacity runes, your cap is higher and it takes longer to fill. This delays the lock from taking effect.
