The Full Gear Progression Path
TBH has 10 rarity tiers: Common → Uncommon → Rare → Legendary → Immortal → Arcana → Beyond → Celestial → Divine → Cosmic. Your gear journey follows a predictable pattern. Early game: equip whatever drops, prioritize filling all 20 gear slots. Mid game: target Legendary+ items with useful stats, start synthesizing 9-stacks. Late game: Immortal+ gear with optimized stat rolls, Cube decorations and engravings on permanent pieces. Endgame: Beyond+ gear, min-maxed stats, full Cube customization.
| Stage | Target Rarity | How to Get It |
|---|---|---|
| Early (1-1 to 1-40) | Common → Legendary | Drops from monsters and boss chests. Equip whatever has useful stats. |
| Mid (1-40 to 2-40) | Legendary → Immortal | Boss farming on Nightmare +. Synthesize 9 Rare/Legendary stacks. |
| Late (2-40+) | Immortal → Arcana | Hell difficulty boss drops + synthesis. Cube decorations on permanent gear. |
| Endgame | Beyond → Cosmic | Synthesis grinding + Steam Market purchases. Requires enormous material investment. |
Where Gear Actually Comes From
| Source | Best For | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Monster Drops | All gear slots, all rarities. Your primary source for weapons and armor. | Random slot, random stats. Accessories drop extremely rarely. |
| Boss Chests | Higher rarity gear. Act bosses (1-10, 2-10, 3-10) drop Legendary chests. | Limited to one clear per boss per run. Farmable but slower than monster drops. |
| Crafting (Cube Lv.5) | Accessories — the primary way to get rings, amulets, earrings, bracers. | 100 Gold per craft. Rarity is random. Requires materials. |
| Synthesis (Cube Lv.1) | Rarity climbing. 9 Common → 1 Uncommon, eventually to Legendary+. | Output type is random. 9:1 ratio means you lose 8 items per attempt. |
| Steam Market | Bypassing RNG. Buy the exact item with the exact stats you want. | Legendary+ only. Costs real Steam Wallet funds. Market upload currently disabled (June 2026). |
The Math of Synthesis
| Target Tier | Avg. Common Items Needed | Avg. Synthesis Attempts |
|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 9 | 1 |
| Rare | ~85 | ~9 |
| Legendary | ~780 | ~87 |
| Immortal | ~7,100 | ~788 |
| Arcana | ~28,000 | ~3,100 |
| Beyond | ~170,000 | ~18,500 |
| Celestial | ~1,400,000 | ~155,000 |
| Divine | ~17,000,000 | ~1,900,000 |
| Cosmic | ~340,000,000 | ~38,000,000 |
These numbers account for "same tier" flowback and lucky +2 tier jumps. Cosmic tier is genuinely rare — reaching it is a multi-month endeavor that requires millions of items processed through the Cube. Most players will cap out at Immortal or Arcana tier for their main gear, which is perfectly sufficient to clear all Torment content.
The Accessory Problem
Accessories (Amulet, Earring, Ring, Bracer) drop from monsters at an extremely low rate compared to weapons and armor. A typical overnight farming session might yield dozens of swords, helmets, and boots — but zero accessories. Crafting is the primary and most reliable way to get accessories. If any hero in your party has an empty accessory slot, you should be crafting accessories. The stat boost from filling that slot outweighs almost any other gold expenditure.
When to Buy Gear on the Steam Market Instead of Farming
Sometimes spending a few cents on the Steam Market saves you hours of farming. Good candidates for purchase:
- Accessories with perfect stats. If you see a Ring with high Crit Chance and Crit Damage for $0.15, that's worth more than 10 hours of crafting RNG.
- High-rarity weapons for your main DPS. An Immortal Bow with good stats can double your clear speed immediately.
- Gear that fills a specific gap. If your Knight keeps dying because the helmet slot is under-leveled, buying a good helmet fixes the problem instantly.
Milestone Gear Warning
Items at levels 25, 35, 45, 55, 60, 70, 75, 85, and 90 are permanently untradeable on the Steam Market, regardless of rarity. "Type B" variant gear is also market-banned. Before you invest Cube resources into an item, check its level and name — if it falls into either category, you can never sell it. Keep it for personal use or extract any Cube attachments and dismantle it.
