Pets Guide

How Pets Work

Pets in TBH are permanent companions that provide passive stat bonuses to your entire party. You can have one pet active at a time, and you can switch between unlocked pets freely. Pets do not participate in combat directly — they provide background bonuses.

Each pet is unlocked by meeting specific in-game conditions. Once unlocked, the pet is permanently available on your account. Pet bonuses apply globally, regardless of which party composition or stage you're running.

Pet Passive Stacking — The Most Important Mechanic

This is the single most important mechanic in TBH's pet system: all unlocked pets' passive effects are permanently active, even if that pet isn't deployed. You can only send out one pet at a time into battle, but the passive bonuses of every pet you've ever unlocked continue to apply globally to your entire account.

In other words: every new pet you unlock = a permanent layer of passive bonuses added to your account. Unlocking more pets means stacking more passive bonuses indefinitely. This makes pet acquisition one of the highest long-term ROI activities in the game.

Pet Priority — Bat Is Your #1 Must-Get

Among all free pets, the Bat has the highest priority. Its bonuses (+10% normal chest drop rate, +15% XP gain) directly address the two core needs of any player: more chests = more gear/materials/Soulstones, and faster XP = quicker access to advanced Rune Tree features. Farm Stage 1-7 immediately to unlock it — it only takes 15-30 minutes and provides permanent account-wide value.

All 8 Pets

Every free pet is unlocked the same way: kill 5,000 of a specific monster type. The best farming stages for each are listed below.

The Dragon is the best all-around pet in the game with triple bonuses, but requires real money. Among free pets, Bat offers the most well-rounded value (EXP + chest drops).

Best Pets for Gold, EXP & Item Farming

Early Game: Bat (EXP + Chest Drops)

Your first pet. Kill 5,000 Bats — best farmed on A1-7 City Outskirts (Torment: ~204/run) or Hell/Nightmare if you're not Torment-ready. The +15% EXP gain accelerates leveling, and +10% common chest drops means more gear to equip or cube early on.

Gold Farming: Watcher (+15% Gold Per Kill)

Once you've unlocked core Rune Tree nodes, switch to Watcher for faster gold accumulation. Farm Giant Flies on A2-5 Scorching Dunes (Torment: ~228/run). Gold fuels every rune purchase — Watcher pays for itself quickly.

Boss Hunting: Burning Skeleton or Dark Spirit

Both boost boss chest drop rates (+10% and +15% respectively). Boss stages (every 5th stage) have expanded loot tables. Stacking boss chest bonuses increases your odds of Epic+ drops from boss kills. Dark Spirit is the stronger choice but requires Ghost kills (A3+ content).

Best Pets for Boss Fights & Pushing Stages

Pushing Difficult Content: Blue Golem

Blue Golem provides +15% common chest drop rate, which means more gear drops during tough stage pushes. While it doesn't directly boost combat stats, more gear = more chances at upgrades mid-push. Farm Hell Golems on A3-6 Burning Ravine.

Leveling Speed: Bat or Dragon

Bat (+15% EXP) is the best free pet for power-leveling heroes. Dragon (+20% EXP) is the premium upgrade — part of the Supporter Pack — and stacks multiplicatively with Rune Tree EXP bonuses.

Best Pets for Steam Market Profit

If your primary goal is earning Steam Wallet funds, here's the pet priority:

  1. Dark Spirit (+15% Boss Chest Drop Rate) — Boss stages have exclusive loot tables with higher-value items. Boosting boss chest drops directly increases Epic+ yield, which are your primary Steam Market items.
  2. Burning Skeleton (+10% Boss Chest Drop Rate) — The budget version of Dark Spirit for earlier-game farming.
  3. Blue Golem or Bat (+10-15% Common Chest Drop Rate) — More total drops = more chances at valuable items. Solid for overnight AFK farming where quantity matters.
  4. Watcher (+15% Gold) — Gold funds Rune Tree upgrades (item drop rate nodes), indirectly boosting market profits.
Pro tip: Switch pets based on your activity. Watcher for active gold farming. Blue Golem or Bat during overnight AFK for chest volume. Dark Spirit when farming boss stages (every 5th stage) for targeted high-rarity drops. There's no cost to switching — use the right tool for the job.
