How Alchemy Works
Alchemy is the Cube's recycling function. You feed it items you don't need, and it converts them into gold. That's it — simple, but it's one of the most important systems in the game.
Unlike selling items through other means, alchemy also grants Cube EXP, making it a dual-purpose operation: you get gold and you level up your Cube at the same time.
Golden rule: Never sell Common or Uncommon items through any other channel. Alchemize them. The gold adds up fast, and the Cube XP compounds over time.
Gold Values by Rarity Tier
Higher rarity items yield more gold. Below are approximate values based on community testing:
| Rarity | Approx. Gold Yield | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 3 – 5 | Small but infinite supply from farming |
| Uncommon | ~10 | Bread and butter — most of your drops |
| Rare | ~25 | Decent value; consider synthesis before alchemizing |
| Legendary | ~80 | Steam Market candidate — check market price first |
| Immortal | ~250 | Rare enough to warrant careful decision-making |
Values are approximate and may vary slightly based on item type and level. Arcane and above yield significantly more but are rarely alchemized due to their trade value.
Cube XP from Alchemy
Every alchemy operation grants Cube EXP in addition to gold. The XP scales with the rarity of the item alchemized — higher rarity = more XP.
In the early game, alchemy is often your fastest source of Cube XP. Combined with Offering (which uses commemorative coins for larger XP bursts), it forms the backbone of Cube leveling.
| Cube Level Goal | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Lv.5 | Unlocks Crafting — reliable accessory source |
| Lv.10 | Unlocks Extraction and Steam Market access |
| Lv.15 | Unlocks Engraving — guaranteed stat bonuses |
| Lv.20 | Unlocks Offering — coin-based item draws |
Alchemy Strategy
Always Alchemize
- All Common items. Their individual gold value is tiny, but you get hundreds per farming session. Alchemize them all — the Cube XP alone makes it worth the 10g cost.
- All Uncommon items you're not equipping. These are your main gold engine. Alchemize uncommons immediately; don't let them pile up.
- Duplicate Rares beyond what you need for synthesis. If you have 10+ Rare swords, alchemize the extras rather than hoarding them indefinitely.
Think Twice Before Alchemizing
- Legendary+ items. Check the Steam Market before alchemizing. Even a mediocre Legendary can sell for far more than the ~80g alchemy yield.
- Items with good engravings or inscriptions. These carry value beyond their base rarity. Extract the effect first, then decide whether to alchemize the empty item.
- 9-stack synthesis candidates. If you're close to 9 of the same rarity/type, synthesizing may yield more value than alchemizing the individual pieces.
