Hunter Overview

RoleTrap/Control DPS (Burst + Crowd Control)
Damage TypePhysical + Fire + Ice (Crossbow)
Base HP70 (low)
Base AttackHigh (burst-oriented)
DifficultyHigh — trap setup, combo timing, positioning
Recommended for Beginners? High skill ceiling — not a beginner class
TierC Tier (general use) / A Tier (expert play)

The Hunter is TBH's most complex and misunderstood class. At first glance, the C-tier ranking seems deserved — its damage looks lower than the Slayer, its consistency lower than the Ranger. But in the hands of a skilled player, the Hunter transforms into a battlefield controller with the best guaranteed crowd control in the game (Frost Bolt: 100% freeze) and one of the highest burst damage combos (3x Charge Trap + Explosive Bolt detonation).

The Hunter rewards game knowledge and trap placement. Casual players should pick Ranger or Sorcerer. Players who enjoy setup, timing, and tactical play will find the Hunter deeply satisfying.

How the Trap Combo Works

This is the Hunter's signature technique and the reason to play the class:

  1. Deploy 3 Charge Traps in the path of incoming enemies
  2. Let enemies walk over the traps — traps arm and wait
  3. Fire Explosive Bolt into the trapped area
  4. Explosive Bolt detonates all 3 traps simultaneously, each dealing its own damage plus Explosive Bolt's 688% fire AoE

The result: triple trap damage + 688% fire AoE, all hitting at once. Against clumped enemies, this can delete entire waves. The setup takes a few seconds, but the payoff is one of the highest burst damage combos in TBH.

Best Hunter Skills

Explosive Bolt (Active) — Priority 1

688% AoE fire damage. This is your primary damage skill AND your trap detonator. It does everything: direct damage, trap synergy, wave clear. Max first, no exceptions.

Frost Bolt (Active) — Priority 2

210% ice damage with 100% chance to freeze for 1-2 seconds. This is the best crowd control skill in TBH. Guaranteed freeze means you can shut down any enemy — including bosses — on demand. The damage is modest; the control is priceless.

Charge Trap (Active) — Priority 3

Place a trap that arms after a short delay and deals physical damage when triggered. Up to 3 can be active simultaneously. The base damage per trap is moderate, but when all 3 are detonated by Explosive Bolt, the combined burst is enormous. Max after Explosive Bolt.

Crossbow Turret (Active) — Optional

Deploys a stationary turret that auto-attacks enemies. Good for sustained supplemental damage during long fights. Lower priority than the trap combo core — invest remaining points here if you don't need more trap damage.

Shock Bolt (Active) — Tier 5

2,700 base lightning damage bolt. Adds lightning element to the Hunter's arsenal. Unlocked at Tier 5 (40 skill points spent).

Quick Loader (Active) — Tier 2

Attack speed boost active. Available after spending 10 skill points. Essential for maximizing DPS uptime between trap combos.

Elemental Bolts (Passive) — Low Priority

The Hunter's Fire/Cold/Lightning Damage Enhancement passives (Tiers 3/7) provide up to +150% elemental damage. Invest after your core actives are solid.

Hunter Gear & Stats

Priority Stat Why
Skill EffectBoosts Explosive Bolt and trap damage. The best raw damage stat for Hunter.
Crit RateTrap detonations and Explosive Bolt can crit. Huge burst when they do.
Crit DamageMultiplies crit value. Stack after ~40% crit rate.
Cooldown ReductionMore traps, more Explosive Bolts, more Frost Bolts. Good but secondary to damage stats.
HP70 base HP is squishy. Get enough to survive incidental damage.

How to Play Hunter

Midline Positioning

Place the Hunter behind your tank but ahead of pure backliners. Traps need to be in the path of advancing enemies. If the Hunter is too far back, traps deploy too late. Too far forward, and the Hunter's 70 HP becomes a liability.

Trap Placement Tips

  • Pre-lay traps before waves. If you know enemies come from the right, set traps there before they spawn.
  • Stack traps, don't spread. 3 traps in one spot = triple damage when Explosive Bolt detonates them. 3 traps spread out = each detonates separately.
  • Frost Bolt priority targets. Freeze the biggest threat — usually the boss or an elite mob. Even 1 second of freeze prevents a major damage spike.

Boss fights

Frost Bolt the boss on cooldown. 100% freeze means the boss is locked down for 1-2 seconds every Frost Bolt cast. With cooldown reduction, you can keep a boss frozen for a significant portion of the fight. This is the Hunter's unique contribution — no other class can guarantee boss lockdown.
